Proof of Consent (Opt-In) For SMS Using Twilio
Overview
This page explains how FCBC Walnut collects, confirms, and records consent to receive SMS/text messages via our Twilio‑powered messaging program. The following outlines the process by which consent is obtained, stored, and maintained in compliance with Twilio’s Acceptable Use Policy, TCPA (Telephone Consumer Protection Act), and other applicable regulations.
Opting In
Paper Registration Form (unchecked box): At on‑site registration or ministry events, attendees may check an unchecked SMS consent box on our paper form to receive “FCBC Walnut Alerts.”
Exact consent language printed on the form: “I agree to receive SMS/text messages from First Chinese Baptist Church, Walnut about safety, security, and campus updates. Message frequency varies. Msg&Data rates may apply. Reply STOP to unsubscribe, HELP for help. Privacy Policy: https://english.fcbcwalnut.org/privacy-policy”
Notes:
The SMS checkbox is separate from general registration and is not pre‑checked.
Consent is not required to participate in church activities or receive services.
Confirmation Message
Immediately after we capture consent, we send a confirmation message reiterating key details:
“FCBC Walnut Alerts: You’re subscribed to safety & campus updates. Msg&Data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help. Message frequency varies.”
Opting Out
Participants may unsubscribe at any time by replying “STOP” to any message. This action is processed immediately by Twilio, and the individual is removed from future messaging unless they choose to re-subscribe.
What We Sent and How Often
• Only safety, security, and campus operations updates (e.g., emergency notices, facility closures, childcare requests).
• Message frequency varies.
• We do not send fundraising or marketing via this program.
How Consent is Recorded and Retained
For paper‑form consent, we retain the signed/initialed form or a scan and log:
Name and mobile number consented
Date/time of consent, event/location, staff initials
Form version reference
Records are retained to demonstrate consent and to honor opt‑out requests appropriately.
